WE!
I know families who have adopted children who do not look like them.
Children from China. From Romania. Africa. Haiti. Even from the United States. What they have in common is a transcendent sense of family that defines them. The Greater WE.
Some biological families are racially mixed, with children who claim multiple ethnicities. Ethnic purists view this negatively. These families daily celebrate their mixed origins. The Greater WE.
Still other families are recent immigrants who have adopted us as their new country. It is here that they wish to live. It is here that they will raise their children. And here their children’s children will take their place beside other descendants of immigrants. The Greater WE.
They are not they. They are WE. We are greater than our respective biological roots. We together have diverse origins but a shared familial experience.
We. The Greater WE.
WE are a collection of cultures, ethnicities and histories. WE are greater than the sum of our parts.
We. The Greater WE.
